Week 4 Reflection: Tech EDGE, Mobile Learning In The Classroom- Episode 02, Museums Online
In this Episode of Mobile Learning In The Classroom, Guy Trainin discusses how students can take virtual field trips to Museums all over the world. With the use of technology students can learn about museums that are to far away to travel to.
The first resource Guy tells us about is Google Cultural Institutes. This is a version of google maps but instead of outside, we can take a look in the inside of museum buildings. Just like Google maps, the images you are viewing are real life images where you can maneuver where you are and what angle you are viewing things. Guys also tells us about two apps that your students can use in the classroom to explore museums all over the world. You can find reviews on these apps below.
Tech EDGE videos are short informative videos about using technology in the classroom. Overall, Guy Trainin does a superb job of keeping viewers attention by making his videos engaging and not including an excessive amount of information.
App Review: MoMa, The Museum of Modern Art
ITunes App Description:
MoMA is a free app made for students to explore art work from museums all over the world. With this app students are able to view an art work and learn about it. With in the app, there are also videos available to learn more about the process, maps to select where you are wanting to look at museums works, and also art terms so students can better understand the arts descriptions. When you select an art work it gives you the basic information about the piece. Then there is a selection to the right where you can click to read more in depth information about that specific work.
PROS:
Overall, MoMa is a well designed app. I believe this would be a great addition to a art class for higher grade levels(6th-12th), but would not be engaging for younger general education class rooms.
PROS:
- Easy access
- Can view different art work from all over the world
- Easy to use app
- Cant view the museum, only the art with in it
- Would not be engaging for younger students
